Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence has gained all the attention it deserves. Countries are going gaga over it. And why won’t they; it’s astonishingly helpful and surprisingly brainy.

Artificial Intelligence Has Costed Way More Than Expected To The Chinese Lady:

After trending web designs of 2018, we now have a new trendy news.

China is one such country that has been implementing artificial intelligence in the form of facial recognition in various folds of its business and social lives. Soon the country is to launch Iris and Gait recognition technology which will be mapping faces in 3-d, of every person residing in the country. However; that is the talk of the future. What facial recognition technology is currently up to, will be our topic of discussion for this article.

We have been hearing pros of the technology since the day it came into being. Hence, that is something unmasked. However; this blog is solely dedicated to the downside of facial recognition technology.

Oops! Artificial Intelligence Named and Shamed The Wrong Lady:

Artificial Intelligence Dong Mingzhu

What is it? In the light of a recent event that took place in the Zhejiang province of the South of China, a famous businesswoman’s image was put up on a screen displaying jaywalkers. Under the image was her ID number and her name written with the wrong surname. This lady, known by the name of Dong Mingzu, is the president of the most famous air-conditioning company in China. She has been declared by Forbes as one of the most outstanding business woman in China.  She is a lady who hasn’t taken a single day off in 26 years.

Was she genuinely involved in jaywalking? Hell no. It was an innocent mistake that led to public shaming of a famous figure.

How Did This Happen? Here’s The Story:

At the time the signal turned red, there was a bus on the road with a picture of Mingzu on it. Hence when the 3D facial recognition system got active.  In search for jaywalkers, it misjudged the picture while recognizing it as an actual person. As a result, Mingzu was criminally charged for jaywalking when in reality she wasn’t even present at the place of the incident.

Now, this is bad.

People took this blunder to Weibo while mocking the facial recognition system for the blunder it made.

The police in Ningbo city immediately reacted to the situation while apologizing to Mingzu. They also corrected the error while making upgrades to their system to avoid mishaps in the future.

Surprisingly, Mingzu did not take it to her heart.  Instead of throwing allegations on the authorities, she praised the system for doing its job to restore discipline in the society.

The incident is indeed a funny one but needs to be taken seriously for if it happens again, it will no longer be humorous.
