Well, Facebook does not perceive it as an offensive thing to gather public data and sell it aka contributing to researching. However, their agenda sounds like a great contribution to the global crises of the novel coronavirus.
For the provision of authentic information, Facebook is keenly directing each of its users towards the official awareness platforms by the World Health Organization and their local authorities via automated popups. Also, the official notification for each case of virus transmission is being directed to the users’ newsfeeds in the country where the case has been reported.
Zuckerberg mentions in his detailed announcement that they are in a close-knit with WHO and other relevant organizations like UNICEF, etc., for better communicating the awareness. They are facilitating the NGOs free of cost advertisement and promotion of authentic information via Facebook.
To cease the spread of misinformation, Facebook is already removing the false posting and campaigns along with reporting and blocking the authorities. Mark Zuckerberg mentions in his announcement that the company is removing as well as blocking people or organizations trying to exploit the fear among people and create hoax among people by posting cures of coronavirus with fish and snake oils.
The most important part of Facebook’s agenda – to utilize its services in rightly managing the crises and contributing to the control of this outbreak. Mark Zuckerberg has announced to provide important data and insights to the research agencies willing to carry out studies concerning the global crises of the novel coronavirus.
