Paralyzed Patients Can Now Communicate With Their Thoughts

There’s no second thought in the fact that technology has made our lives easier. With the ability to work faster than the human brain, smart gadgets have become as substantial as any human organ. And now its doing wonders for the paralyzed patients.
If we only speculate our routine, we’ll observe how we are surrounded with the technology. From smartphones in hand to smart television on the wall, life has become completely techy in the contemporary era.
Needless to say, technology is anything but useless in today’s world.
Scientists have successfully developed a brain-computer interface that helps people with paralysis to communicate. Only with their thoughts, the patients can function off-the-shelf tablet device.
How freaking amazing is this?
Using a tablet or smartphone is an every minute thing, but for some people, this can take hours or even a lifetime. Considering the unfortunate disability of patients with paralysis, scientists has experimented this device. The production of medical and technology, these tablet devices are being applauded all over the globe.
Just like us, you too might be curious to know if this miraculous device works. Here are the details:
The system consists of an array of micro-electrodes which are implanted on the patient’s brain, and decode the neural-signals with the intention to move a limb.
To test this device, an experiment was conducted, where three patients participated. All the patients were paralyzed from the neck down. With the off-the-shelf tablet device, the paralyzed patients were freely texting friends. Along with that, they were browsing the internet. And even streaming music with the help of BrainGate2.
The experiment further showed that the system first identifies the intentions of the user. And then moves a virtual mouse which is wirelessly paired to a tablet.
Also, if you are blessed with a healthy mind keep it protected from social media. Because researchers just proved that social media social usage is disturbing mental health of users.
