As digitalization enters every business field, marketing through compelling brochure design seems to become a lot obsolete. As an outcome, most designers seem to neglect the part of learning the basics of brochure design; leaving behind a trend that isn’t over yet.

That’s where the problem begins. Digital channels might have minimized the usage of compelling brochure designs and flyer designs but their impact hasn’t been over yet. As long as the world continues to trade and print exists, no power can undo the significance of brochure designs in marketing. Thus, if you an amateur designer and have got doubts about designing a compelling brochure design, I’ve put together the perfect steps to stand out in this blogpost.

What Are the Steps to Stand Out with A Compelling Brochure Design?

Dive in to burst your curiosity and learn the steps to stand out with a compelling brochure design!

Paper Sizes.

The paper size has got special significance in designing a compelling brochure design. are you familiar with the terms like A3, C5, and Tabloid sizes, etc.? Well, not knowing them is surely a problem if you’re into design. Better late than never, you can learn about them in this blog.

While most of the countries from across the globe have switched to ISO (International Organization for Standardization), North America still follows their standard protocols for the page size and so, we get two different size standards to design a compelling brochure design.

The North American standards are basic and compact; they can be easily adapted and memorized.

Letter.

This size is commonly used with trifold brochure designs and is 8.5 inches by 11 inches.

Legal.

8.5 inches by 14 inches, a legal page size is used with the trifold brochure designs that call for a little more space than the letter size.

Tabloid.

11 inches by 17 inches, tabloid sizes are mostly used with half fold brochure designs with a widespread space that’s capable of consuming an entire menu.

11 x 25.5.

Though this page size doesn’t have a particular name, it is commonly used with trifold brochures which results in three letter-sized pages.

On contrary, the ISO system follows mathematic calculations to determine the standard page sizes. They range from A0 being the largest descending one by one to A7 being the smallest. Each of these standard page sizes follows a particular ratio i.e. 1:1:4142, and the size increases following the bisection: halving the length of the former to obtain the width of the latter, with being the width of the former then becoming the latter’s length. Thus, the arrangement can be better understood by looking at its graphical representation as follows.

For easy memorization of these standard page sizes outlined by the ISO system, take a look at the following!

  • A0 – 841 mm x 1189mm
  • A1 − 594mm x 841mm
  • A2 – 420mm x 594mm
  • A3 – 297mm x 420mm
  • A4 −210mm x 297mm
  • A5 −148mm x 210mm
  • A6 – 105mm x 148mm
  • A7 – 74mm x 105mm

Folding Types for Brochure Designs.

Compelling brochure designs come in various sizes and types. However, there are eight such types found very common and they include;

Simple single Fold. A sheet folded once to make two different sections.

Tri-Fold –

A sheet folded twice in order to create three sections.

Gate Fold –

A sheet that’s folded twice to create three sections but the two corner ones of half the width of the central portion.

Double Gate Fold –

A sheet folded thrice to create four equal sections and thus, opens from the center.

Right Angle Fold –

A sheet folded once both vertically and horizontally to create four equal sections.

Roll Fold –

A sheet folded thrice to create four equal panels with each of them rolling over the other.

Double Parallel –

Fold a sheet folded thrice to create four equal sections with their rightmost panels overlapping the leftmost panels.

Accordion Fold –

A sheet folded as many times as you want.

Margins and Measurements.

Margins and measurements play an essential role in the creation of a compelling brochure design. Therefore, the best practice for that is to ask your client for a sample template before you begin with designing. Because despite there being a set of standards, you have to make certain adjustments when folding your brochures in order to keep them flat and fine.

For an instance, when you’re folding a trifold brochure, the ideal way is to keep the first section narrowed than the actual standard size so that it fits with other sections without bending.

Also, margins play a very important role when you are designing a compelling brochure design. And with folding brochures, margins become even more significant. As a designer, you must leave some space for folding when deciding the margins to prevent your design from being the bend.

Putting it all condensed, the above-discussed information is adequate to help you create a professional brochure design. However, if you feel like you need assistance, the option to hire cost-effective graphic designers always remains active.
